Two Days of School!
Just a reminder that we only have 2 days of school this week (unless the snow has something to say about it!) We will have winter break from December 22 through January 2.
I hope to see everyone on January 3, rested and ready to go! :)

Grandparent Craft Day and a visit from Santa!!!
On Friday, we had grandparent craft day! The kids and their special person(s) had so much fun! I think most of the time was spent at the Gingerbread table! A lot of goodies went on the house and in the tummies!! :) We were having so much fun that we were almost late for lunch! We did make it but were just a little late! The afternoon was just as crazy as we finished up our gifts for our parents. I wanted to get them done and sent home on Friday because of the weather they are talking about for this coming week! The kids helped with clean up and even enjoyed a movie! I know that I was exhausted on Friday afternoon, I am sure the kids and the grandparents were too! :)
We had a special visitor come on Friday during snack time! Santa Claus came to visit!!! The kids were so excited! I am hoping to post some pictures on here, as soon as I learn how to do that!! :) I will try to work on that this week! So keep watching! :)

We are busy!
We have lots of things to do this week! With Grandparent's day on Friday, we have so much to do and get done! The kids are so excited and are working hard to get everything ready for Friday! Hopefully everything will go off without a hitch and the weather will cooperate! :)
We are awesome!!
Today we had a concert in the gym. We got to see the 5th and 6th graders do a practice of their concert for tomorrow. We were very good listeners and were very respectful, so much so that we were judged as the best class in the gym. Next time we have an assembly we will get to sit in the special chairs!! :) WAY TO GO! I am so proud of them!!!!

Things Are Changing!
We started new centers today. The kids were very excited! I was very apprehensive as I felt I was introducing too many! The kids absolutely loved them! They kept waiting for a center to open up so they could go and try it! It was hard to keep them focused on a center when they were waiting! I told them they would get a chance to try all of the new centers! So far the hits are the listening center and the stamping center. Now I just have to figure out how to keep their hands out of the stamp pad ink! :)
Thank You Cards
Today we created thank you cards to send to the troops who are overseas. We talked about how far away they were from home and how they weren't able to be with their family during the holiday season. The kids did a great job and were very excited to being doing something to make other people happy! I stopped at the post office today to mail them off! I hope the military troops are excited to receive them!

Report Cards
Report Cards will be coming home next Friday (Dec. 10th). I have spent the week checking the students on their skills and very excited to see their progress. I know that you will be excited to see their report cards next week! Please keep doing all of the awesome work at home that you have been doing! They are making some great progress!!!
Snow is Flying!
The snow is sure flying outside and that bring to mind that all the kids need to be dressed for the weather! Please make sure your child has all the necessary winter gear with them every day! The kids love to play in the snow! They will have a lot of snow to play in when they get to school on Monday!

Thanksgiving Feast
On Wednesday, we celebrated Thanksgiving by having a feast. The kids had a lot of fun and I even heard some of them using their manners (please and thank you). There was a lot of food for everyone and they enjoyed eating with their friends from the other two classes! They even helped to clean up after we were done! I am so glad and proud of them! They did an awesome job!!

Dress For The Weather!
Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather! We go out to recess every day unless it is raining or below 0 degrees. All kids should have a warm winter coat, snowpants, boots, hat and mittens. They should also be able to get dressed with minimal help! It just gets too hard to help 18 kids all at the same time, so please work on these independent skills at home! :)
Reader's Theater
Reader's Theater came to visit us again on Friday! The kids were very excited to have them come back and to bring a story to life! The kids are hoping they will come back every week! :)
Short Week!
We only have school 3 days this week! There will be no school on Thursday or Friday due to Thanksgiving! Have a great time with family and friends!

Reading!
The kids brought homework home on Friday! They were so excited! We have been working on "reading"! On Friday, they all met in their small groups and we read a sight word book! They loved it! Hopefully we will keep working on their sight words and you will be seeing more "homework" come home! They wanted to read to everyone! They even read to their reading buddies! :)

Changes!
There are some changes happening in the classroom. The kids and I worked on a new classroom arrangement today. We are going to be changing on how we do centers, so I was trying to make space for new ones! The kids were great with helping and making suggestions! I loved it! They took ownership for helping and the new arrangement! I am very proud of them! They seem better able to handle change than I do! :)

Flash Cards
Please let me know if you want flashcards to help your child at home! I have sight words, letters, and can make numbers if you need them. Drop a note in your child's folder and I will get them ready for you!
Thanksgiving!
We talked about Thanksgiving today and why we have Thanksgiving! The kids were very interested in knowing where the pilgrims came from, more about Native Americans and what was here when the pilgrims got to America. They were very surprised to find out there were no stores here, no houses, no bathrooms, etc.... They just assumed that everything was here when they got here! :)

It has been a long time!
I didn't realize that it had been awhile since I have posted! I had gotten so busy with our fall party and getting ready for conferences that I neglected blogging about what was going on in the room! I am sorry about that! Hopefully I will be able to keep adding little tidbits about things that are happening in our room! :)
Voting Day
The elections have come and gone. We were fortunate to have a polling place at Halverson. The kids were very curious as to why there were extra people in the gym and what were they doing in there. We talked about what an election is and what happens. We also talked about the red stickers that people were wearing. They were wondering if they could get red stickers too, but we then talked about only the people who actually voted, got a sticker. They can't wait to get older so they can vote. I think getting a red sticker might also be an incentive! :)
Thanks for Coming!
WOW! It was so great to meet with all of you! Our room had 100% attendance for conferences! I was so excited to see everyone and to let you know of all the progress that your child has made!

Conferences
Don't forget to send your conference slip back to school! Conferences are next week! I can't wait to meet with you and share the progress your child is making! I think you will be amazed! I know that I am! :)
WOW, Paper is flying along with the wind!
The kids have used so much paper the past week! I have introduced them to the writing center and to writing the room. They love it! They love to take the clipboards around the room and write down words they see. They also love to write their friends' names! I am sure that you are seeing some of these papers come home. They are very proud of them and are showing everyone who comes into the room! So beware if you visit during this time! :)

No School
Don't forget there is no school on Thursday and Friday, October 21 and 22. It is fall break for the kids! I will be attending meetings and workshops in the twin cities! I hope that I can learn something new to bring back to the kids! Of course, I always like to get some new things while I am there so the kids will probably tell you about that when I come back! :)
What a Fast Week!
This week has flown by! I can't believe that it is already Wednesday afternoon and there is a little over an hour left of school for the week! We have done many things in a short amount of time! The kids have been very good this week. I was gone on Monday morning for a workshop. They had a sub that was new to the building. They were very helpful and showed her where to go and of course, how to do things the right way in Kindergarten! :) They adapted very well and have worked really hard this week! I can't believe it! They have grown so much in the 32 days they have been in school! I can't wait until conferences to share with you all they have accomplished so far!

Short Week!
This coming week will be a short week! We have school on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We have Thursday and Friday off for Fall Break! We will be working on the letter X this week.
What A Busy Week!
We had a very busy week in Kindergarten! We talked about apples and pumpkins! We made apple prints and pumpkin people. The kids were very excited to put these up in the hallway! They want everyone to see them! They also can't wait to take them home to show their families! We went to visit Mrs. Waltman in the computer lab and she showed us how to log on and log off of the computers. The kids are very excited to finally go to the computer lab! Reaher's Theater also came to visit and presented a play for us, called Hansel and Pretzel. The kids loved it! We are winding down our nursery rhyme unit. The kids love it and love to do the songs that go with the nursery rhymes.

Alligators vs. Mice
As we were working on our Fire flames today for Fire Safety, we talked about the difference between being an Alligator and a Mouse. I talked about how some students use mouse bites with their scissors, which are little snips, because it was taking them a LONG time to cut out their flames. I talked about how we should use Alligator bites, big snips, to cut out our flames! They thought it was so cute that I was using an Alligator voice and a mouse voice! Not sure my voice was happy with that! :) So for the rest of the time I could hear some of them chanting-"Alligators, Alligators, No Mice. Alligators, Alligators, No Mice." Of the things they come up with!

Head and Shoulders!
In Reading, our story for the week is My Body Book. The book talks about different body parts and the things your body can do, such as, swim, jump, run, read, etc.... We were talking about body parts andtrying to name a few of them. They had a little more trouble with elbow, wrist, ankle, etc.... Some of the kids knew the song, Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. I talked about a project that we could do to help us remember our body parts. The kids were very excited to do a project. So today, we made skeletons out of q-tips! Talk about an undertaking! Let's just say there was glue, q-tips flying and "stuff" all over! :) The kids had a great time (some even named their skeleton), I grew a few more gray hairs and the skeletons are up on the wall!

Fall is Here!
We have started talking about Fall and all of the things that happen in the fall! Apples fall from the trees, pumpkins are ready to be harvested and spiders move into the house to stay warm over the winter! Of course the kids like to get me going, since they know I hate spiders! I have asked them if they will be my spider killers! I have some volunteers! I had one who asked me for my address, as he was going to come over and take care of my problem! :) My heart wanted to melt! They want to be so helpful! :)
And since Fall is here! Please remember to send sweatshirts or coats with your child! It is still a little chilly on the playground when we go out to recess!
